The origin of Liverpool Hope University can be traced back to 1965. The university originated as a teacher education college for women, established by the Church of England Diocese of Chester and the Roman Catholic Sisters of Notre Dame.

Previously known as the Liverpool Institute of Higher Education (LIHE), the Liverpool Hope University was accredited as a university in July 2005.
