The Southampton Solent University started its journey in 1856 as a private School of Arts, in July 2005 became a university and on August 15 was officially named Southampton Solent University. The University of Sheffield was founded in 1905 as a result of a merger between three local entities - Sheffield School of Medicine, Firth College, and Sheffield Technical School. On 31 May, 1905 the University was granted the Royal Charter.     Located within the University of Sheffield campus, Sheffield International College is the outcome of a joint venture between Kaplan International colleges and the University of Sheffield.
