Capella University is an entirely online institution that formed in 1991 by Stephen Shank, former CEO of Tonka, to serve adult students. The vast majority of Capella’s students are graduate students – 43% of students are enrolled in MS/MBA graduate programs, 40% are in PhD/PsyD doctoral programs, and 16% are seeking undergraduate degrees. The average student is 40 years old and most (90%) are enrolled part-time. Capella University is one of the few online colleges that caters almost entirely to adult students looking to build their careers.
